EMMER FLAKES

EMMER FLAKES

Rolled from Black Obsidian Emmer grown at Weatherbury Farm   (see the emmer growing in the field)

Organic Emmer Flakes (Rolled Emmer) —  In addition to being a nourishing and delicious breakfast porridge, Weatherbury’s Emmer Flakes can be used to give baked goods a hearty tasty texture.

As the emmer flakes are rolled “live” and not steamed, they retain higher vitamin levels (In particular, B vitamins) and antioxidants that heat can destroy.  Emmer Flakes are high in fiber and have a low glycemic index.

Emmer wheat is also known as Khapli wheat in India and is known as Farro in Italy.

1.5 lbs ($ 9.33)*; 5lbs ($20.82)*

Limit 15 lbs. per customer/order period.   At this time, berries are hand-sorted which is both time consuming and hard on the wrists.  Thanks for your understanding.

* 1.5 and 5 pound bags are packaged in re-sealable bags.

Storing Weatherbury Farm Products

Flours, Rolled Products & Berries:
Weatherbury flours, rolled products or berries are real food and insects find them tasty.

They should be stored in the refrigerator.  If you will not be using immediately, keep in the freezer, especially in warm weather.

We have had reports from customers that even after two years they still work and taste great. We wouldn’t, however, recommend storing them that long.

Although there are organic pesticides, we do not use them, either on the grains in the field or the products we mill.

If you store the flours, rolled products or berries in a tightly lidded bucket,  you will open your bucket and find  bugs slipping into what you thought was an impenetrable space.  If you have been storing organic flours, milled products & berries in a lidded bucket and there are no bugs, then an organic pesticide has been used.

Beans:
Keep the beans in a cool, dark, dry place.  Dry beans will, over time, take longer to cook (but they still have great flavor).
