WHEAT BERRIES / APPALACHIAN HARD WHITE WINTER WHEAT

WHEAT BERRIES / APPALACHIAN HARD WHITE WINTER WHEAT

Berries of Appalachian Hard White Winter Wheat grown at Weatherbury Farm

(See the Appalachian Wheat growing in the fields)

Organic Wheat Berries (Appalachian Hard White Winter Wheat) -- Use in grain bowls, salads and soups.  Can be  cooked like rice or risotto for a recipe or used in a salad. As they are berry grade, home millers can grind them in their home mills.

Limit 10 lbs. per customer/order period.  This is our first month sorting wheat berries with our new color sorter.  As we become proficient, the amount of wheat berries allowable per order will increase.  Please be patient with us, we don't want to disappoint you by not being able to fill an order because of machine difficulties.  Thanks.

The new sorter is a positive change for Weatherbury Farm as  Nigel has been hand sorting spelt berries by hand for the past  11 years.

Storing Weatherbury Farm Products

Weatherbury Flours are real food and insects find them tasty.

Although there are organic pesticides, we do not use them, either on the grains in the field or the products we mill.  Therefore the flour, rolled products or berries should be stored in the refrigerator.  If you will not be using immediately, keep in the freezer, especially in warm weather.

We have had reports from customers that even after two years they still work and taste great. We wouldn’t, however, recommend storing them that long.

Otherwise even if you store them in a tightly lidded bucket,  you will open your bucket and find  bugs slipping into what you thought was an impenetrable space.  If you have been using organic flours, milled products & berries and there are no bugs, then an organic pesticide has been used.

Keep the beans in a cool, dark, dry place.  Dry beans will, over time, take longer to cook (but they still have great flavor).
